Thank you for considering Woodcroft College for your high school study in Australia. A co-educational day school located in the beautiful city of Adelaide, South Australia.

Woodcroft College welcomes international students into a supportive and values-based learning environment. We offer a quality learning and cultural experience in preparation for university studies. Or a shorter experience of study and life in Australia for high school aged students.

We acknowledge the positive impact of having a diverse range of cultures, customs and traditions in our school community.

We value different perspectives and fostering respect and empathy among our students. An inclusive and multicultural environment prepares students for the globalised world in which they will study, work and live.

We are proud to develop our students as people and as learners. It is our responsibility to balance preparation for our students’ chosen pathway after school with a well-rounded education offering a broad range of subjects and skills. Our students are not defined by their academic outcomes alone. Strong in intellect and character is our approach.

DEVELOPING ENGLISH SKILLS

All classes at Woodcroft College are taught in English and completing high school study at our school will be excellent preparation for university study.

International students choosing full-time enrolment are often required to provide evidence of their English proficiency to determine if they require further preparation to join their main course at Woodcroft College.

We recommend the English Proficiency Evaluation Test from Adelaide International School (AIS) click here or the AEAS test click here.

Woodcroft College is pleased to partner with Adelaide International School (AIS) for our international students to enrol in an appropriate English for Academic Purpose course based on identified needs from their English proficiency test reports. Attending AIS will support students to gain confidence in a safe and non-competitive environment. Specialist teachers teach all courses and students will experience a typical school day program.

The interview is an informal discussion about the student’s interests and reasons for wanting to come to Woodcroft College. It is about making sure that we are the right choice for the student and their family.

It is also an opportunity assess a student’s English skills. If there are any concerns about the level of English, a student will be requested to sit a recognised English proficiency test. Woodcroft College refers the AEAS Test.

The College will keep in close contact with the Education Agent and student on arrival details.

The College partners with Happy Homestay Adelaide (HHA) who will work with the student and their parents to find the right homestay family. A representative from HHA or the homestay family will meet the student at the airport.

The student will be welcomed to Woodcroft College with an orientation session, including introductions to staff and students. Along with arranging a uniform fitting, and all the necessary stationery, the International Student Coordinator will be on hand to help a student have a positive start to their studies at Woodcroft College.

    homestay

The wellbeing and safety of students living away from home is a priority for Woodcroft College.

No matter which Study Option a student chooses, they will live with a local caring family who are nurturing and part of our community. Students will receive the same consideration and protection as other family members. We want all our students to be in a warm and welcoming home environment while they study at Woodcroft College.

Homestay accommodation is arranged and managed by Happy Homestay Adelaide and the program is closely monitored by our International Student Coordinator.  Families are carefully selected to find the best match for the student and details of the Homestay family are forwarded to the Education Agent and family of the student for approval. All our Homestay families must go through an application process, home visits, with relevant clearances and reference checks for all household members over 18 years.

All Full-Time and Study Abroad students will have their own furnished bedroom, including a desk for study. Study Tour students may need to share a bedroom.

Our international students will be encouraged to interact with their Homestay family as this will help with their English skills and settling into the Australian culture. Students will participate in weekend activities which could include family functions, trips, entertainment and shopping.

Homestay families live near the College or in surrounding suburbs. Transport options include their Homestay family, the Woodcroft College school bus (free of charge) or public transport. No student will experience a lengthy travel time to school.

Full-time students under 14 years of age will need to live with a parent or other approved Department of Home Affairs guardian.

How to become a Homestay Family

Providing a home for an international student can be a rewarding experience in the sharing of cultures and supporting a student to adjust to life in Australia. Homestay can be provided for students attending the College for short-term or full-time study programs.

Woodcroft seeks interest from families who will provide a welcoming and supportive home, and who have a genuine interest in supporting a young person living and studying away from their own home.

You do not need to have any connection to our school but ideally live close by or within access to one of the College bus routes. You will need to provide a student with their own room and desk for study and all people 18 and over will require Working with Children Checks.

Woodcroft College partners with Happy Homestay Adelaide who manage the program on behalf of the school. Please email our International Student Coordinator at [email protected] to indicate your interest.

Your details will be passed on to Happy Homestay who will contact you directly to discuss the application process and requirements to become one of our valued Homestay families.
