Welcome to Senior School at Woodcroft College, the space and place for students to flourish in their individual strengths as they prepare to pursue their chosen pathway in life after school.
Our senior students often express their gratitude for being part of such a caring, inclusive and positive community.
With a range of subject choices, the curriculum is broad and challenging. From core subjects and electives in Year 10 to the choice of over 40 compulsory and elective subjects as part of the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE). Vocational Education and Training pathways are also available, allowing agency in learning that will support students with the skills they require for their chosen futures.
Extensive subject selection and career counselling is offered to each of our students to help them understand options and post-school choices.
Senior School is not only about study, with students actively connecting with our community. Our extra-curricular program includes sporting and music activities, along with leadership opportunities, to encourage students to find a good balance and the opportunity to grow.
Our Pastoral Care program caters to the changing needs of students as they progress through their final years at school, preparing them for the world beyond the classroom. Your child’s wellbeing will be supported.
Students will be in a community that cares, challenges, respects and nurtures individual excellence.
Year 10 is the commencement of Senior School for our students. The theme for Year 10 is ‘Starting the journey’ and it seeks to propel students from the known and comfortable Middle School setting into the challenging and inspiring world of possibility.
A key underpinning of the Year 10 program is supporting the social, emotional and academic development of our students with a Head of Year who has established relationships and expectations with the cohort.
This is the start of preparing for life beyond school with careful subject counselling, discussion of career paths, work experience and visits to tertiary institutions.
Students will complete Exploring Identities and Futures which will identify current and desired capabilities, skills and interests for future employment.
Year 10 marks a critical transition point in our students’ learning. A time to build on the achievements in Middle School and to prepare for the increased rigour and subject specialisation in SACE for Year 11 and 12.
Our students are offered a wide range of subjects to cater to emerging interests and the development of new skills.
Year 10 core subjects are complemented by the choice of electives, opportunities to explore the VET pathway and study subjects at SACE Stage 1 level.
In Year 10 your child will study:
Students will also choose two electives in each Semester from a variety of subjects in Design and Technology, Health and Personal Development, Music, Visual Arts, Languages, Drama, Humanities, Sciences, Specialist Physical Education and VET.
Further learning and growth opportunities occur outside the classroom through leadership responsibilities, a broad range of extra-curricular clubs and activities, an extensive sports program, performing art opportunities and the Outdoor Education Program.
Student wellbeing is a key focus at Woodcroft College along with development of strong character and values-based behaviour. Along with a dedicated Pastoral Care lesson each week, personal counselling is available.
Students will participate in Worship and Year Level assemblies and lessons around financial literacy, critical and creative thinking, positive psychology and health and nutrition.
As part of Pastoral Care, the Head of Year 10, Tutors and guest presenters will deliver a program to support the personal development and age specific needs of students.
The program covers topics such as:
Through a dedicated Pathways Coordinator, the College aims to provide students with information and support to help make those important decisions about future careers and life beyond school.
Each year in May, a Careers Week provides opportunities for guest speakers to talk about their own careers or options for students to study and employment after school.
The Pathways Coordinator acts as a liaison with local businesses looking to employ students for after school jobs. If you would like to learn more, please contact Abigail Batten at [email protected].
Year 10 students use their Quest skills and knowledge on a four-day camp at Tuilkilkey Station in the Mid-North. Students participate in an ‘amazing race’ that takes them back to the 1800s. Small independent groups complete an extended initiative game as they move around the 50,000-hectare property.
Over the past 20 years the College has run an outdoor leadership program for Year 10 students. The program is offered to a small group of students with the aim of developing leadership skills through adventurous outdoor activities.
Our Future Leaders participate in several long format learning opportunities in some beautiful natural places. Challenging tasks provide an opportunity for the team to show support and encouragement to each other. By learning to set a positive tone on the program, students can then apply this to leadership opportunities at the College and on the Service Learning project. Strong lasting friendships develop within the group due to the shared challenges the program provides.
To attain the Future Leaders Certificate, participants are required to complete the following:
Participants are also required to complete a compulsory Service Learning project in their own time. This should be self-directed (some options may be available in school (e.g. recycling program and tutoring).
The Future Leaders Program provided me with ways to connect better with nature and work on life skills such as perseverance, teamwork, and selflessness. The camps gave us opportunities and experiences we would not usually take part in and would push us outside of our comfort zone. Amazing memories were made that we will all cherish for a lifetime.

In Year 11 there is a strong emphasis on independence, communication and the transition to a post school environment.
This is an important year for students to explore a wider range of subjects in line with their interests and strengths, and to challenge themselves academically. Students will be gaining a better understanding of their preferred pathway for Year 12 and beyond.
Students are supported by the same Head of Year throughout Year 11 and Year 12 as we understand the importance of strong and stable relationships with key academic and support staff over this period.
All students complete compulsory Stage 1 SACE subjects for Literacy and Numeracy and can start their Stage 2 Research Project.
With English and Mathematics as the two core subjects, students will have multiple subject choices across a range of key learning areas:

Year 12 presents the opportunity for students to select subjects that align with their passions, strengths and preferred post-school pathway.
While all students are encouraged to work hard, the College supports students to learn how to have a balanced approach to school and life. We want young people ready to successfully take their place in the world, whether they are headed for university, further education, training, an apprenticeship or joining the workforce.
Throughout their Woodcroft College journey, students will learn the value of positive relationships with their peers and teachers. This comes to the fore in Year 12 and each year we see our students form a cohesive group who encourage and support each other.
Students are also supported by the same Head of Year throughout Year 11 and Year 12 as we understand the importance of strong and stable relationships with key academic and support staff over this period.
With their own exclusive space known as The Croft, students have easy access to their Head of Year, quiet study areas, their own kitchen and a place to take some time out.
We want our students to share positive experiences that will support them through their study. Events such as launch day, reflection day, formal and graduation celebrations are highlights on the Year 12 calendar. Every year the group of Year 12 students come up with an individual motto and mural to inspire and encourage each other.
Year 12 students will complete their Stage 2 SACE and the subjects selected should reflect individual interests while providing variety and appropriate level of challenge to prepare for a chosen post school pathway.

This is a pause in the hectic time of the final year of school. It gives our students a chance to reflect on the last 12 years and consider where they have come from. It is an opportunity to connect with peers and tutors before students start their final term. We want to inspire students to be their best and to have the growth mindset necessary for success.
Students will undergo a range of activities that encompass the theme of their cohort; community, courage, connection and character. These include outdoor activities such as bouldering, orienteering and Challenge Hill, as well as groups sessions focusing on reflecting on their schooling and looking towards their future.
Senior School students are supported to choose the right pathway to achieve their future goals.
The South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) is awarded to students who successfully complete their secondary schooling. This internationally recognised qualification ensures students develop the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in an ever-changing world.
Students will complete their SACE in two stages to achieve 200 credits across a range of compulsory subjects and multiple electives of their choice. For more information on SACE, please click here.
As part of SACE, students can receive credits for many different forms of education and training beyond academic subjects. This includes a Vocational Education and Training (VET) pathway, School Based Apprenticeships and recognised community learning. Students may study courses off-site and they often involve a work placement component. VET Courses are nationally accredited and can be a pathway to further study, university or employment. For more information on VET offered at the College, please click here.
The College provides each Senior School student with course and subject counselling to ensure that they choose the right pathway and subjects they are interested in, that build on their strengths and skills, and stretch them as a learner. Parents can also be involved in this process.
